Samsung Devices Will Not Support Android’s Latest Instant Hotspot Feature

New Instant Hotspot Feature Unavailable on Samsung Devices

Google has unveiled a new Instant Hotspot feature as part of its latest Android update, which allows Android tablets or Chromebooks to connect to a phone’s hotspot with just one tap. This feature, previously limited to Chrome OS, now extends to various Android devices, offering seamless connectivity similar to Apple’s Continuity feature. However, it will not be available on Samsung devices, which Google confirmed during the announcement. Samsung users will need to rely on their existing Auto Hotspot feature for similar functionality within their ecosystem.

Instant Hotspot: Streamlining Connectivity for Android Devices

For users with Wi-Fi-only Android tablets or Chromebooks, connecting to the internet often involves setting up a mobile hotspot on their phone, creating a password, and manually connecting the devices. This can be cumbersome, especially when on the move.

Google’s new Instant Hotspot feature simplifies this process, enabling users to connect their Android tablet or Chromebook to their phone’s hotspot with a single tap, without needing to enter a password. This functionality mirrors Chrome OS’s Instant Tethering feature, which allows quick internet access by pairing a cellular-enabled Android phone with a Chromebook.

While Samsung’s Auto Hotspot feature already allows Samsung tablets to connect to Samsung phones’ data, the new Instant Hotspot feature does not extend to non-Samsung tablets. This exclusion remains unclear, though it is speculated that Samsung aims to promote its own device ecosystem. Despite this, Samsung users can still utilize the Instant Tethering feature for Chromebooks and Link to Windows for Windows PCs.
